Classicism

Two artistic turns . < / strong >

In the period between 1770 to 1840 Classicism has replaced the Baroque era . The art and the architecture would be to design alternatives to late Baroque . Works of classical painting dealt with idealized subjects and their contents were based on the Italian Renaissance. The emotional world of the rococo were replaced by reason and enlightenment of this era. For art and architecture this meant a clear regulation of content , forms and colors .

An outstanding classicist architect, painter and graphic artist , Karl Friedrich Schinkel, who as a royal Oberlandesbaudirektor classicism decisive designed and thus to today, North & East Germans coined cityscapes .

Superseded was this art style by a renewed counter-movement . The romance disagreed with the composition and the formal languages of antiquity in favor of feelings, passions and individuality in life and art.
