Amadeo Modigliani was born on July 12, 1884 in Livorno, Italy. He studied in the Art Academy of Venice and Florence. In 1906, he moved to Paris where he met Picasso, Kees van Dongen and Juan Gris. He lived between misery, sickness, alcohol and drugs. He created a portrait style inspired by cubism: faces were deformed and caricaturated. He died on January 25, 1920.
