“Lady with Fan” was created in 1917/1918 and is among Gustav Klimt’s final paintings. The unfinished work remained on the easel in his Vienna studio until his death and powerfully marks the pinnacle of his late oeuvre. At its centre is a mysterious young woman whose relaxed posture and direct gaze radiate an extraordinary lightness. Behind her unfolds a sumptuous backdrop with phoenix, crane, lotus blossoms and other East Asian motifs that reflect Klimt’s fascination with Japanese and Chinese art. In contrast to his golden paintings, he largely dispensed with gold leaf here, instead using luminous colours and a free, vibrant brushstroke. Today, “Lady with Fan” is considered one of the most important works of Viennese Modernism. As a high-quality art print, the painting reveals its exceptional richness of colour and elegance on poster, canvas or in a frame, becoming a stylish focal point in any living space.
