<h3>The Tree of Life (Central Panel of the Stoclet Frieze), 1905–1909</h3> <p>The <strong>central panel of the Stoclet Frieze</strong> shown here is one of Gustav Klimt’s most celebrated creations. At its heart rises the stylised Tree of Life, with its far‑reaching, spiralling branches that guide the viewer’s gaze across the entire composition. As an independent motif, this section of the image has long transcended the monumental original, becoming an iconic embodiment of Klimt’s ornamental visual language.</p> <p>The Tree of Life was originally conceived as the central element of a large‑scale frieze for the Palais Stoclet in Brussels. To the left and right are the adjoining panels <em>“Expectation”</em> and <em>“Fulfilment”</em>, which together form a harmonious total work of art. With its golden planes, geometric ornaments and sinuous lines, Klimt fused influences of the Vienna Secession with symbols that, in many cultures, stand for life, growth and renewal. The central section in particular evolved into one of the most renowned motifs of European Art Nouveau and is now regarded as one of the key masterpieces of Klimt’s Golden Period.</p>
