Max Liebermann was THE German impressionist painter. He was born on July 20th, 1847 in Berlin. In 1873 he moved to Paris and learnt by the French painter Jean-François Millet (Realism) and the Dutch Frans Hals.
In 1884, he went back to Berlin and became in 1894 the president of the newly founded art group called "Berliner Sezession". His artwork is symbolic of the transition of 19th century art to modern art. With Lovis Corinth and Max Slevogt, their work is emblematic of German impressionism.
Max Liebermann died on February 08th, 1935 in his house in Berlin.
