Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi, aka Sandro Botticelli, was born in Florence the 1st of March 1444. Between 1465 and1467, he was Filippo Lippi's student and copied his style to paint angels and madonnas. He worked later in Verrochio's workshop. Botticelli was surrounded by philosophers and the Medici family. It had a great influence on his career. His most famous paintings are "the Spring" in 1478 and "the Birth of Venus" in 1482. Both of these paintings were orders from Pier Francesco Medici. After this sumptuous period of his life, Botticelli's notoriety slowly weakened. He died in Florence in 1510.
