the Bauhaus: the primary colors

Purist in color and shape

Clear, minimalist structures are typical of the Bauhaus style.

Symmetrical forms, the primary colors red, yellow and blue as well as black and white are combined with strong materials made of metal, concrete and glass.

The architect Walter Gropius laid the cornerstone of the Bauhaus in 1919 with the founding of the "State Bauhaus in Weimar".

For the first time, art and craft, design and function were combined - and further developed by artists such as Paul Klee and László Moholy-Nagy into their own avant-garde style.

Corners and edges

The Bauhaus stands for the fusion of art and function. For founder Gropius, the focus was that an object should be beautiful to look at, simple and functional.

The facility should be simple and practical. Symmetry plays a key role here, as do clear edges and straight lines.

Geometric patterns sum up the Bauhaus approach.

Best choice: Aluminum Prints

Typical of the Bauhaus are the solid materials such as metal, steel and chrome, which are used everywhere due to their reliable stability and simplicity. Works of art printed on an aluminum plate are a special eye-catcher of the modern kind.

Inspired by Expressionism: The Bauhaus style

Classic design

The Bauhaus approach came from the art style of Expressionism. The expressive power of lines and the abstract simplification of the representational as well as the use of strong colors of Expressionism can also be found in the Bauhaus.

This is how many well-known artists of this era, such as Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and László Moholy-Nagy, taught at the Bauhaus art school in Dessau.

Today, these painters, like the Bauhaus style, are regarded as modern classics.
