Biography of Edgar Degas

The painter of Parisian life

Edgar Degas was born on July 19th, 1834 in Paris and worked as a painter and sculptor. Although his paintings are classified as impressionist artwork, Degas differentiated himself from this art movement with specific drawing and image composition. Above all, he liked to paint portraits, ballet dancing, jockeys, horses and Parisian nightlife. Degas created his art pieces with pastels as well as oil paint.

Edgar Degas was the first child of a family of 5 children. When he became an artist, Edgard Degas's father help him with his first art studio. He studied in the "Ecole des Beaux-Arts" in Paris and spent a lot of time copying famous painters in the various museums in the French capital city. em>

In 1856 he began to travel to Italy in order to complete his art studies. And Edgar Degas stayed there until 1859. Back to Paris, he met Edouard Manet, Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and other artists that had a great influence on his word

In 1874 Edgar Degas was part of the organization of the first Impressionist Art Fair, that made the Impressionist art movement famous.

By 1908, Degas had stopped painting and drawing. He dedicated the rest of his life to sculptor. When he died on September 27th, 1917, Edgar Degas was blind and lonely.
